If you want to travel back in time and see a real old-fashioned small town rodeo, you will want to check out this annual rodeo held in Etna. The entire town of Etna and folks from all over converge on Pleasure Park every year in May to watch local talent and professional rodeo cowboys compete in events on horseback and on bull riding.
The kid’s events are especially entertaining including the Mutton Bustin’, which involves some of the tiniest cowboys and cowgirls climbing aboard sheep for a scary, if not short-lived, ride of their lives. You’ll be impressed by the degree of roping and riding skill demonstrated by cowgirls of high school age and younger during the Team Roping, Breakaway Roping, and Barrel Racing events.
This is good old-timey country fun. Prepare to get a bit dusty, sit on the ground or in bleachers, sip yourself a premium Etna Beer while munching on all manner of great fair food provided by local groups like the Lion’s Club, Job’s Daughters, and the Boy Scouts. Hold onto your hats because you will see some amazing bull riding and steer wrestling as well. Step into an Old West time warp with a trip to Scott Valley. You won’t forget it.
