With its abundant snow, varying terrain, and vast public lands, Siskiyou County has become a haven for cross-country skiers and snowshoers.
Mt. Shasta draws skiers & snowshoers for its excellent access to quality terrain and high-altitude snow via Everitt Memorial Highway (which is plowed to Bunny Flat).
For those preferring groomed trails, the Mt. Shasta Nordic Center offers 25 km of groomed trails over widely varying terrain - all of which are suited for skate skiing.
Snowshoers will discover vast ranges of publicly accessible wilderness mostly centered around Bunny Flat (Mt. Shasta) Castle Lake, and in the Eddys. Those who prefer a more “civilized” backcountry experience can explore the greatly expanded 12 kilometer network of snowshoe-packed trails at the Mt. Shasta Board & Ski Park Nordic Center.
Rental gear and new (and lightweight) cross county and snowshoe gear is available at several stores in downtown Mount Shasta.
